Pro-Goodluck Jonathan protest held in Lagos on March
16 crippled parts of the city to condemn the marchers and their
sponsors. Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola led the punishment of
the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC)-led protests.
Yesterday, on March 17 members of the outlawed group in Lagos, acting under security cover, smashed their way through Ikorodu Road while campaigning for President Jonathan’s re-election and calling for the removal of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
They roughened up motorists who did not get out of their way quickly and smashed All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign billboards, The Nations reports.

The Lagos State House of Assembly, various Yoruba groups, Lagos West APC senatorial candidate Solomon Adeola, among others, also condemned the action.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state did not agree with those actions. Its spokesman Gani Taofeek said: ‘’We are not involved. It is not the tradition of the PDP.”
Besides, the Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Groups (COSEG), after its meeting yesterday described the action as “diversionary, unnecessary and an invitation to chaos”.

Leaders of the OPC factions Dr. Frederick Fasehun and Chief Gani Adams are among those given the controversial N9billion pipelines surveillance contract by the Federal Government.
Also, to be recalled, the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation Lagos chapter took to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, March 16, demanding the sacking of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, before the March 28 elections.
Heavy traffic built up along the highway as the protesters, who were well protected by heavy police presence, took over one part of the road, grounding movement of other road users.
The protesters took time to distribute leaflets containing seven reasons why the INEC boss should be sacked.
Besides, on Sunday, March 15, the All Progressives Congress alleged that it had uncovered a plot by its Peoples Democratic Party counterpart to fund ethnic militias to protest and demand Jega’s sacking.
