mission to be sworn-in come May 29, was recently interviewed on Aljazeera Tv.

The president who has come under heavy criticism for series of issues the country continues to face such as the ongoing insurgency, the gradual collapse of the economy, corruption (just to mention a few), finally addressed these issues and his hopes in the upcoming march 28 presidential election.
Responding to questions from his interviewer, President Jonathan made mention of five key things Nigerians should take down and have at the back of their minds as the build up to the 2015 Elections continues.
The five key things President Jonathan addressed were: Rumours of yet another election postponement, the plot to remove the INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, on the fight against Boko Haram, on his chances of winning the 2015 presidential election and what he would end up doing if victory doesn’t go his way come march 28.
Below are 5 key quotes extracted from President Jonathan’s interview with Aljazeera;
On if the elections will be postponed again: “I don’t think so. I believe the elections will be conducted as scheduled by INEC, that is National elections on the 28th of this month. I don’t see why we should postpone again because I am quite impressed with the successes going on in the north.”
On the plot to remove Professor Attahiru Jega: “Except somebody is insinuating that the Chairman has done something wrong. You cannot change an officer, except the person has done something wrong. Government, whether at the federal or state level, president or governor, does not wake up and change somebody, especially somebody like the INEC Chairman, except that person has done something wrong. INEC is a very sensitive body. For me to change INEC Chairman, Nigerians and non-Nigerians will ask questions. So, you cannot wake up and change INEC Chairman. I have never discussed with any person on earth about changing INEC Chairman”
On the fight against Boko Haram: “I did not tell Nigerians that we must rout Boko Haram 100 per cent before the elections could be conducted. But we want to degrade Boko Haram to the extent that they would no longer have the kind of strength to come out and disrupt the elections. That is the key thing. In terms of taking over our territories, yes we will take over all our territories –yes, we will take over all of our territories and very soon there will be no part of Nigeria where they will erect a flag and say, ‘This is a Boko Haram territory.’ That we’ll do.”
On his chances of winning the 2015 presidential election: “I will not lose the election”.
On if things go wrong on march 28: “If by default somebody wins the election, of course I will go back to my village. The country is not my father’s estate. I’ll not lose the election”.
