Billy Graham’s daily devotional November 27, 2016 - Realities of Life

Topic: Realities of Life [November 27, 2016]

Casting down imaginations . . . and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. — 2 Corinthians 10:5

Thousands of people have made plans to escape from the realities of life. A new word has come into common usage the last few years. That word is “escapism.” The dictionary defines it as “a retreat from reality into an imaginary world.” The escape of imagination. Solomon spoke of the unregenerate heart as one which is inclined to excessive fantasy. The dream world Satan promotes always ends with disillusionment. Thousands of people live in an unreal dream world, while shirking their responsibilities toward their families and toward God. The Bible teaches that with Christ in your heart, you can face the realities of life. Even though they are hard, the grace of God will give you greater joy and pleasure than any dream world to which you try to escape.

Text: Exodus 21:12-25

Key Verse: "But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die. And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death" (Exodus 21:14,15).

An Iranian woman who was blinded and badly disfigured by an acid attack by a spurned suitor recently pardoned her attacker. The woman was severely disfigured in the 2004 incident, when a bucket of acid was poured on her face and body and ultimately went through at least, 17 operations. In a court-ordered retribution, as a doctor was about to put several drops of acid in one of his eyes in a hospital operating room, the man who attacked her waited on his knees and wept. "What do you want to do now?" the doctor asked the 34-year-old woman, who suffered the attack. "I forgive him, I forgive him", she responded, asking the doctor to spare him at the last minute in a dramatic scene broadcast on Iran's state television.

Have you ever sent an email and suddenly realized it went to the wrong person or it contained harmful, harsh words? If only you could press a key and stop it. Well, now you can. Several companies offer a feature that gives you a brief time after sending an email to stop it from leaving your computer. After that, the email is like a spoken word that cannot be unsaid. Rather than being seen as a cure-all, an “unsend” feature should remind us that it’s extremely important to guard what we say.

DCLM Daily Manna November 15, 2016 by Pastor Kumuyi – Torrential Love

Topic: Torrential Love [November 15, 2016]

Text: Song Of Solomon 8:1-7

Key Verse: "Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned" (Song of Solomon 8:7).

In the ancient dispensation when Solomon wrote this Song, the culture of the people did not permit public display of intimacy or affection except between close family members. But here Solomon's lover says for the sake of love she is prepared to disregard such inhibition. This self-abnegation underscores the all-conquering power of love. Where it manifests as a genuine fruit of the Spirit, it displaces all forms of evil. The word of God puts it succinctly in 1 Corinthians 13:13, thus: "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity [love]".

I stand in the cashier line of the local supermarket and look around me. I see teenagers with shaved heads and nose rings looking through the snack foods; a young professional buying one steak, a few twigs of asparagus, and a sweet potato; an elderly woman pondering the peaches and strawberries. Does God know all these people by name? I ask myself. Do they really matter to Him?

Spiritual Truths on Prayer by Pastor Wesley. L. Duewel

**

1. Prayer means rushing to the Father as His child. It means asking and receiving. Loving and thanking Him.

Basilea Schlink.

2). Prayer should be the key of the day and the lock of the night. Start the day with prayer, close the day with prayer.

3). There is unusual power in united prayer. GOD has planned for His people to join together in prayer, not only for Christian fellowship, spiritual nurture and growth, but also for accomplishing His divine purposes and reaching His chosen goals.

DCLM Daily Manna November 13, 2016 by Pastor Kumuyi – The Watchful Soldier

Topic: The Watchful Soldier [November 13, 2016]

Text: 2 Timothy 2:1-13

Key Verse: "No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier" (2 Timothy 2:4).

In practical terms, a genuine Christian is a soldier at war all his life. The difference between him and the conventional soldier is that whereas the latter has peace-time, moments of respite when he is not at the war front, the former is always waging war. The fervent Christian is at a spiritual war front at all times, the strife or struggle of which is without borders or timing.

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES ✨You’re An Overcomer✨ Tuesday 8th November . Pastor Chris

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).

You’re a victor in Christ Jesus; you were born that way. Refuse to allow the circumstances of life get you to think otherwise. You’re born of God, and have therefore overcome the world and its systems: “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4). Through faith you have overcome the world!

As the volunteers returned to the church, one woman began to cry. “When I was a little girl,” she said, “that lady was my Sunday school teacher. She’s in church every Sunday. We had no idea she was almost starving!”

Memorise: Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. – Mark 9:23

Read: Mark 9:19-29 (KJV)

19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.

22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Bible in One Year: Genesis 4-7, Psalms 98

Text: John 12:12-22

Key Verse: "The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus" (John 12:21).

A young preacher went to a new church as pastor. He thought the people wanted to hear intellectual preaching, so he filled his sermons with these things. His church’s attendance began to fall off. Young people left the church. Then one day, when he came to his pulpit, he found a card with the words, "We would see Jesus", written on it. He was angry at first but soon began to realize he had been giving his people the wrong messages. He promised the Lord that from that time on, he would preach "Christ and Him crucified". As he did this, his congregation began to grow, and the young people returned to the church.

Key Verse: "But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me" (Psalm 49:15).

Admonitions, encouragement, exhortations are some ways preachers help believers to cope with some challenges that confront them. No doubt, the world in which we live is full of such unpleasant occurrences and each of us has our fair share of such experiences. What separates a winner from a looser in this bumpy road of life is attitude. As we face the reality of oppressions, difficulties and the huge gaps between the rich and the poor, there is often the tendency for some Christians to become depressed and discouraged.

Bible in One Year: Revelation 8-11, Psalms 93

MESSAGE:

There are some people who never knew what sickness, failure, poverty or stagnation was until they committed fornication or adultery. Fornication/adultery is a sin that attracts the automatic wrath of God because it involves your Body, Soul and Spirit. Those who secretly engage in the sin of adultery end up being reduced to a piece of bread. Some think that as long as their sins are not found out, they are safe. Ask King David, he will tell you that your sins will always find you out. Fornication and adultery will reduce you to a state of nothingness. Every precious thing in you will shut down permanently, the grace of God upon your life will be automatically removed and you will immediately become exposed to all forms of satanic attack. The cover of the Almighty God is removed and shame and reproach will become a daily occurrence to such a person. It doesn’t matter how long you may have spent in building your life, it begins to crash the moment you invite destruction.

Our Daily Bread devotional, October 30, 2016 - Hearing God

Topic: Hearing God [October 30, 2016]

Read: 1 Samuel 3:1–10, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 20–21; 2 Timothy 4

Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:10

I felt like I was underwater, sounds muffled and muted by a cold and allergies. For weeks I struggled to hear clearly. My condition made me realize how much I take my hearing for granted.

Young Samuel in the temple must have wondered what he was hearing as he struggled out of sleep at the summons of his name (1 Sam. 3:4). Three times he presented himself before Eli, the high priest. Only the third time did Eli realize it was the Lord speaking to Samuel. The word of the Lord had been rare at that time (v. 1), and the people were not in tune with His voice. But Eli instructed Samuel how to respond (v. 9).

The Lord speaks much more now than in the days of Samuel. The letter to the Hebrews tells us, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets . . . but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son” (1:1–2). And in Acts 2 we read of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (vv. 1–4), who guides us in the things Christ taught us (John 16:13). But we need to learn to hear His voice and respond in obedience. Like me with my cold, we may hear as if underwater. We need to test what we think is the Lord’s guidance with the Bible and with other mature Christians. As God’s beloved children, we do hear His voice. He loves to speak life into us.

Prayer: Open our eyes, Lord, that we might see You. Open our ears, that we may hear You. Open our mouths, that we might speak Your praise.

The Lord speaks to His children, but we need to discern His voice.

Insight:

God has communicated in various ways throughout history (Heb. 1:1). One way God speaks today is through our conscience (Rom. 2:14–16). Our conscience is like a moral monitor. An important way we discern whether a spiritual communication has God as its source is to ask: Does the message agree with the Bible, God's written Word? If it does not align with God’s previously revealed truth, then we cannot put our stamp of approval on it.

Open Heavens 29 October 2016: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Not Reprobate

Topic: Not Reprobate [Saturday 29, October 2016]

Memorise: But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates. – 2 Corinthians 13:6

Read: 2 Corinthians 13:5-8 (KJV)

5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.

DCLM Daily Manna October 29, 2016 by Pastor Kumuyi – You’re His

Topic: You’re His [October 29, 2016]

Text: Deuteronomy 2:1-7

Key Verse: "Ye have compassed this mountain long enough: turn you northward" (Deuteronomy 2:3).

Throughout history, God has always remembered His people. He may try their patience, but He always intervenes at the right time. He never forgets His own. The children of Israel had wandered in the wilderness for forty years and it appeared that they were stuck and had no future. But Moses waited for God’s directive on their next line of action.

Read: John 17:6–19, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 18–19; 2 Timothy 3

Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one. John 17:11

The obituary for Alan Nanninga, a man in my city, identified him as “foremost, a dedicated witness for Christ.” After a description of his family life and career, the article mentioned nearly a decade of declining health. It concluded by saying, “His hospital stays . . . earned him the honorary title of ‘The Praying Patient’” because of his ministry to other patients. Here was a man who, in his times of distress, reached out to pray for and with the people in need around him.
